History

The group was formed over twenty years ago and was originally known as the Central Sussex Smallholders Group. In its early days it was a vehicle by which the Agricultural Training Board could provide the necessary courses for those interested in taking up a career in agriculture, horticulture or forestry. A register of approved instructors provided the necessary expertise. The ATB has since evolved into LANTRA (The Land Training Agency).

Over the years the group has built up its own core of instructors. By this means we can provide courses that are aimed at the smaller producer or hobby farmer. On occasions we do call upon other instructors where specific expertise is required that is not found within the group.

Members’ requests help to form the course programme.  A sprinkling of alternative courses helps to entice and maintain interest for members who have already done the basic range of courses.
