Small Farm Training Group
History
The Small Farm Training Group (SFTG) was formed over twenty years ago and
was originally known as the Central Sussex Smallholders Group.
In its early days it was a vehicle by which the Agricultural Training Board could provide the necessary courses for those interested in taking up a career
in agriculture, horticulture or forestry. A register of approved instructors
provided the necessary expertise.
The Agricultural Training Board has since evolved into LANTRA (The Land
Training Agency).
Over the years the group has built up its own core of instructors. By this
means we can provide courses that are aimed at the smaller producer or hobby
farmer. On occasions we do call upon the registered instructors where specific
expertise is required that is not found within the group.
Members are asked to provide a training needs assessment from time to time from which a programme of courses is derived. To this is added a
sprinkling of alternative courses to entice and maintain the interest of members
who have previously run the gambit of the basic range of courses.
